Advice wanted Description

The travertine installed in our house is very porous.  It was picked from a book, because no real samples were available.  The installer has grouted the holes to make the travertine smoother, but it is still not the smooth product we thought we were getting.  The supplier suggested a sealant, but before we do that, I wanted another opinion.  Please Help!!  Thank you,  Misty
